By Rodger M. WoodJimmy “The Fighting School Teacher” Holmes fought tough against veteran middleweight Jimmy Lange at the George Mason Patriot Center last Saturday, but came up short on the referee and judges’ scorecards. The win made Lange’s record, 35-4-2, 24 KO, while Holme’s record dropped to 19- 2, 10 KO.Lange and Holmes went toe to toe the first six rounds, both trading punches and trying to take command of the fight.
Starting about the seventh round, Lange started getting the edge with hard right hand jabs and left – right combinations, but Holmes didn’t back off, dishing a good number of his own left –right combinations to Lange’s body and head.In the end, Lange, the Fairfax favorite, got a unanimous decision, but Holmes could go on home to Indiana, holding his head up high after giving the savvy Lange more for his money than he expected.Lange will be fighting a couple out of town matches before returning to the Patriot Center to fight September 12th.My son Thom took these great fight photos. Please review them and you will think you were at the fight yourself.
