Richmond Wins the Governor Cup!
In dramatic fashion, winning “a winner takes all doubleheader” against the Durham Bulls
6-2 and 7-2 Saturday, the Richmond Braves won the AAA – International League championship and the Governor’s Cup.
Coming back from a 2 to 1 game deficit in the best of five championship series, the Braves got strong 5-inning starts from veteran hurlers, Jeff Bennett and Kevin Barry
to close out the fight to the end Durham Bulls.
Outfielder Doug Clark hit a 3 – run homerun in the first inning of the 5th game to
set the tone for the Braves to win the series.
Richmond goes on to Oklahoma City to face the Pacific Coast League champion Sacramento River Cats in a one game showdown Tuesday, September 19th.
The game will be aired on ESPN 2 starting 8 PM.
